Memories of time at West End School

  • 21-1 8th grade basketball season.
  • Basketball games.
  • Having class with my favorite English teacher, Mrs. Renner; She is a truly exceptional ELA teacher.
  • Working at the Lord's Kitchen and helping feed people who struggled to find their next meal.
  • Meeting Cory Jackson. Graduation Day and having the Women UofL BBall coach speak at it.
  • Going to Louisville games in the box seats for making honor roll and playing sports.
  • The trips to the cabin in New Hampshire and fishing at the pond.
  • Winning really close games with my classmates/teammates.
  • Meeting the friends I still talk to everyday.
  • Just the life experience I received here.

West End School Alumni Spotlight:
Nay Kaw, Class of 2015

We are excited to spotlight Nay Kaw, WES alumni from 2015.

Mr. Kaw is a 2019 graduate of Louisville Collegiate. He is also a 2023 graduate of Berea College in Berea Kentucky.

Currently, he is working as an Assurance Staff Associate at Barnes Dennig. He has also worked or completed internships at Ten20brewery and a Venture Capital internship at Iriba Capital.

When asked what his fondest memories are while being a WES scholar, he mentioned:

  • Camping trips with Mr. Tyler
  • Sports with his peers
  • Learning from Mr. Blair

 

Mr. Kaw is an amazing example of strength and resilience. Although he grew up in a refugee camp on the Thailand border, he has accomplished so much at an early age, including landing a high quality job right out of college, and also graduating college with no student debt.

When asked what advice he would give others, he stated: “Be willing to learn and accept that you wont know everything. You don’t need to. Just be curious, show that you are interested and people will support you.”

He feels his greatest accomplishment so far in life is “using the opportunities that I was given to be where I am today.”
